Real Madrid are indeed making their final preparations.
Spain’s ‘Relevo’ reported on June 1 (KST) that “Real are preparing for the final chapter of the Kylian Mbappe soap opera. Mbappe’s contract ends in June 2024. Real want to try again after all the disappointments of recent years. We are preparing an offer for Mbappe in the first half of 2024, with the possibility of signing him after the end of the season if he is free to negotiate.”
Mbappe’s departure is once again being rumored. Mbappe has been linked with PSG and Real for the past few years. From reports that Real were after Mbappe and PSG didn’t want to sell him, to reports that Mbappe was considering a move to Real. In fact, shortly after the end of the 2021-22 season, Mbappe was very close to joining Real.
However, Mbappe’s option was to re-sign. It looked like he was on his way to a happy ever after with PSG, but a huge ego battle ensued when Mbappe gave PSG a non-compete notice at the end of the 2022-23 season. PSG believed that Real had lured Mbappe away first, but Mbappe himself denied the rumors of a move to Real. Eventually, the two sides reconciled and are now focusing on the season.
So far, Real have made two attempts to sign Mbappe. The first was a €200 million ($282.5 billion) bid, but PSG was adamant. They were unwilling to part with their key player. The second attempt was for the aforementioned 2022-23 season. Between Real and PSG, Mbappe ultimately chose the former.
However, it seems that Real president Florentino Perez is not willing to give up on Mbappe until the end. “Perez, who has unconditional respect for Mbappe, never wanted to slam the door,” explained L’Equipe. He’s willing to try again because it’s a chance to get Mbappe without a transfer fee.
However, no one knows what Mbappe’s position is. “It remains to be seen what Mbappe wants. After years of complaints about the Qatari-led sports project, Mbappe’s friends Ousmane Dembele, Kolo Moani, and others have joined him. With Neymar’s departure, they seem to have put together a team that suits their needs. However, the results have yet to come. Real may prioritize negotiations with Mbappe, but they won’t wait until the end.”
