Foreign pitcher Dietrich Enns of the LG Twins is making waves in the KBO. After just two games, he has shown his ability to strike out a lot of batters and has the potential to be the best pitcher in the league. Manager Yoon Kyung-yeop expects him to get better in the future.
On Sept. 29, Enns started the game against the 2024 KBO League Kiwoom at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul and pitched six innings of three-hit ball to earn the win. LG won the game 3-0. He was perfect through the fourth inning and struck out 11 batters through the sixth inning.
Enns threw 95 pitches, with a mix of fastballs (53), cutters (21), curveballs (14), changeups (6), and sliders (1) that topped out at 150 mph. His primary pitches are his fastball and cutter. His fastball averages 147 mph and has the advantage of being a left-handed pitcher. He also has a sharp cutter that goes right at hitters.
Enns struck out the side in every inning from the first to the fourth. With two outs in the top of the sixth, Park gave up an infield single to Soo-jong Park and a single to Dawson to put runners on second and third. With runners in scoring position for the first time, Enns struck out Kim Hye-seong on a 146-kilometer fastball to end the threat.
Manager Yoon Kyung-yup said of Enns before the game on Monday, “He got the most out of his first start. The first impression is very important for foreign players who are new to the KBO. It’s very important for them to make a good first impression. “Pitching that keeps challenging you can go a lot further,” Yoon said. “A lot of foreign players tend to just throw what they’re good at and not try to do something new. In that sense, I think Enns has a very good personality, so I think he has a good chance of getting better. He throws a changeup (that he’s learning) almost 10 percent of the time.”
