Lotte Giants’ “Glasses Ace” Park Se-woong, 29, faced the humiliation of giving up the most runs in a single game 10 years after his professional debut.
Park took the mound against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Eagles Park in Daejeon on Monday, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits (one home run) on 112 pitches in 4⅔ innings with four walks and four strikeouts to suffer his fourth loss of the season (five wins). Park’s previous most runs allowed in a game was nine (three innings) on Aug. 26, 2016, against the Doosan Bears in Jamsil, breaking his own ignominious record. The loss ended Lotte’s two-game winning streak and dropped them to last place with a 3-12 record.
He favored his slider over his fastball. Park threw the most sliders (59) on the day, mixing in fastballs (26), curveballs (18), and forkballs (9). His slider was in good shape, generating 41 strikes out of 59 pitches, but it started to break down as he was getting hit. The rest of his pitches either didn’t fool hitters or didn’t work. All nine of his pitches were for strikes. My fastball topped out at 150 mph and averaged 148 mph.
He gave up a run in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t a big one. Park gave up a leadoff double to Peraza in the bottom of the first and walked Ah Chi-hong to put runners on first and second with one out. She then gave up a single to left to Chae Eun-sung to make it 0-1, but that was more than enough as the Lotte bats responded with three runs in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning, with the score 3-1, Peraza hit a solo shot to left to make it 3-2. It was a fastball that was well outside the zone.
Park began to fall apart in the bottom of the fifth inning. The slider that had been his patron saint earlier in the game began to adjust and respond to the Hanwha batters. Kim Tae-yeon led off with a single to right, and Peraza, unfazed by Park’s forkballs and sliders, drew a straightaway walk. Noh Si-hwan took advantage of Park’s curveball and lined a single to left for the final out.
With the bases loaded, Park opted for another slider against Ahn Chi-hong. When Ahn Chi-hong grounded out in front of the pitcher, Park threw out Kim Tae-yeon at home to keep the tying run at first base. But the next at-bat was a problem. Park Se-woong threw six consecutive sliders to Chae Eun-sung for a pushing double to make it 3-3.
In a rush, Park threw a fastball to Lee Do-yoon in the middle of a bases-loaded jam and allowed a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-4. From there, the bats went wild. Choi Jae-hoon singled 카지노사이트 to center, Hwang Young-mook doubled to right-center field, and Jang Jin-hyeok followed with a two-run double to right field to make it 9-3. The pitches that allowed the three consecutive hits were all sliders.
He had already thrown over 100 pitches. In the Lotte bullpen, Han Hyun-hee was warming up, but manager Kim Tae-hyung pulled Park Se-woong for more. Lotte lost foreign pitcher Charlie Barnes to a left adductor injury on July 27 and will be out for a month. The score quickly became too wide for the bullpen to consume immediately. Manager Kim apparently opted to have Park Se-woong go as close to five innings as possible.
Park Se-woong gave up another run in the next at-bat when Kim Tae-yeon singled. When Jang Jin-hyuk attempted to steal second base, catcher Son Sung-bin’s throw to second base was misplayed, turning the tying run into a runner at third. Kim Tae-yeon gave up a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 3-10. Park was replaced by Han Hyun-hee 안전한 파워볼사이트 after the next batter, Peraza, singled to center with the bases loaded. He threw 112 pitches. It was just shy of Park’s previous career-high of 117 pitches (June 4, 2021, against the Suwon KT Wiz). Han Hyun-hee struck out the first batter, Noh Si-hwan, on a pitcher’s choice to end the inning.
Park began his professional career after graduating from Kyungbuk High School, joining the KT Wiz as a first-round pick in 2014. In 2015, a major trade between Lotte and KT included top prospect Park Se-woong, and his professional career began in earnest when he made his first-team debut for Lotte in 2015. In all, he has played 234 games in a Lotte uniform to this day, accepting the worst record in the league.
