Once touted as Jürgen Klopp’s successor, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has been tipped to take over at Chelsea.
Amorim is a very young manager at 39 years old, born in 1985. He started managing in the first division at Braga in the 2019-20 season and took over at Sporting midway through the season. Amorim has proven himself at Sporting. In his first year at the helm, he won the league. In the 2021-22 season, they lifted the Portuguese Super Cup and reached the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
This season, Amorim’s Sporting have continued their dominance. With an impressive record of 26 wins, three draws, and two losses in 31 league games, they are five points clear of second-place Benfica. If they maintain this good pace, they will win the trophy for the first time in three years after the 2020-21 season.
Amorim was initially touted as Klopp’s successor. Klopp will end his time with Liverpool at the end of this season. His resignation was announced early on, and the Reds began their search for a new manager early on. Initially, they tried to recruit Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, but after that failed, they quickly turned to Amorim. Some even claimed that Amorim had already reached an agreement with Liverpool.
However, Amorim has reportedly held talks with West Ham. Amorim traveled to London and met with the West Ham board. He was expected to succeed David Moyes at the helm of the Hammers. Coincidentally, Liverpool have also ended their interest in Amorim and are close to appointing Feyenoord boss Arne Slott.
Liverpool and West Ham wanted Amaury Amorim. Now it’s Chelsea’s turn. “Chelsea, not West Ham United, reportedly paid for Amorim’s flight to London, raising doubts about Mauricio Pochettino’s future,” TeamTalk reported on Sept. 30 (KST).
The media is predicting that Amorim will succeed Pochettino. The reason was Amorim’s recent comments. Amorim apologized to the fans for meeting with West Ham’s representatives. 사설토토 He said: “It was a clear mistake. The timing was completely wrong. I didn’t think badly of it at the time, but in retrospect it’s obvious. I apologize to the Sporting fans, I apologize to the staff, and I apologize publicly to the players.” Amorim publicly bowed his head and apologized for traveling to West Ham to face Sporting even though it was the end of the season.
“Amorim has been a long-term interest for Chelsea and they believe he could replace Pochettino,” the outlet added.
Pochettino’s future is also unclear. The club finished runners-up in the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) and are still mid-table in the league, languishing in ninth place. In the FA Cup, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Manchester City. There have been repeated calls for Pochettino to be sacked due to the poor results.
